I marched with the family today in the 2010 Texas Rally for Life. What a great event that seems to grow each year. A few observations:
- Youth - I'd estimate that young folks (sub 21 years old) outnumbered us older folks by 4 to 1. I have a theory that the children and children's children of the 60's and 70's are now getting older and hence the younger generation is coming up without the baggage of the free love generation. Perhaps a generation or two away from abortion being a thing of the past.
- Opposition - I'm always struck by how lame the pro-abortion grass roots movement really is. There were perhaps 30-40 very shaggy looking people protesting at the gates of the Capitol. They seemed really mad and perhaps a bit scared. I would be too being outnumbered 3000 - 30.
- Social Media - I was Twittering the entire event (@tcfundsabortion) and plan on adding more to the social graph as it comes up. Being connected as a pro-life community has never been easier.
- Involvement - If you think about it, even though we have a huge turnout... for our numbers in Central Texas... still seemed like we should have mobilized better. We have around 3000 families in our parish... that if we could have mobilized, would have been something to see.
